Serving Up Slices of Mythology, Cryptozoology and Urban Legends
Myth: Between a Ragnarok and a Hard Place
Ashley kicks off our Norwegian triptych with the world-shattering tale of Ragnarok. For starters, Ashley dishes on the Vikings and Old Norse religion. Then she serves up the myth itself: a seer’s prophecy to Odin that describes a series of events leading up to the end of the entire cosmos. Our dessert course is a fun-filled comparison between the original myth and the 2017 movie Thor: Ragnarok.
Cryptids: Brokeback Night-mare: The Draugr Adventures
This week, Emily is serving up another one-course family style meal of the infamous Norwegian cryptid known as the draugr. In case there wasn't already enough to fear in the dead of the night, the draugr will add a whole new layer of terror to your nightmare cake. From ancient Norse beliefs and fears to modern day takes, this meaty slice of Norwegian zombie packs a ton (literally) of flavor and personality.
Urban Legend: We Didn't Start the Fire... Probably
Lindsay closes out our tour of Norway with a three-course meal of fire and even more fire. For starters, we learn about the Bloody Monk of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim who likes to get handsy, and not in a great way, before diving into our main course — a curious phone in Bærums Verk that likes to ring on the reg with no one on the other end of the line. To close out our meal, we visit the capital city of Oslo and Akershus Fortress where we learn about its fucked up security system. If you like learning about a lot of ghosts and hearing about tons of fires, this is one episode you won’t want to miss.
